In our last post, I asked you to come up with a move and variation for White in this position.

I suspect many of you were ready with 58.Kg5!, preparing to capture the black pawn on h5. Absolutely right. Then Black’s best chance is 58…Ke6.

Black is activating their king, heading for White’s unprotected pawn on b4. Both sides continue on their plans: 59.Nxh5 Kd5

THIS is the moment that really makes the exercise. Ideally White would have reached this position in his calculation before embarking on this line, and found the win here.
