Approaching the Finish Line!

As you may know, we have been working on a new edition of “Best Lessons of a Chess Coach” and I am happy to report that we are closing in on the finish line. But we need some help to get the next pieces of our campaign in place!

Back in 1993, Sunil and Ed Eusebi published “Best Lessons of a Chess Coach” (McKay Chess Library Random House). It sold almost 30,000 copies, a solid performance for a chess book not targeted to beginners. Since I (Robert McLellan) joined NSCF in 2014, I have been told by many people how important this book has been to their development as chess players and complaining that the book has been out of print for so long.

Best Lessons has now been entirely re-written to improve the instruction and add two new lessons (so that will be 12, instead of 10, and organized in 4 parts, instead of 2). The illustrative games sections has been reworked extensively, and many newer grandmaster games have been added.

Next, we want to do a new cover with professional photography, and we have online bonus materials planned, including Sunil actually teaching one of the supplemental lessons online. We need to raise $12,000 to meet our target to have the book out by the end of this year!

Want to Help? We have some great rewards as our thanks for your support.

  • Donate $75 or more and receive your choice of a) a copy of “Great Moves: Learning Chess Through History” which we can mail this week OR b) a copy of the “Best Lessons of a Chess Coach - the Expanded Edition” , as soon as it is published. (Let us know in the comments box which gift you would prefer.)
  • Donate $150 or more and receive an autographed copy of Best Lessons print edition and the digital interactive edition of the book.
  • Honor Roll Supporter: For your gift of $500 or more, receive the autographed print edition, the digital edition, an invitation to Sunil’s supplemental lecture video shoot and your name on the Honor Roll of our book website: BestLessonsChess.org
  • Super Supporter: For your gift of $2,000 or more, receive the autographed print edition, the digital edition, your name on the Honor Roll of our book website, an invitation to Sunil’s supplemental lecture video shoot and acknowledgement in the book!

The new edition of Best Lessons is part of a curriculum-development plan we are working on to provide high quality chess education materials, including materials that will make connections between chess and other academic pursuits. Whatever level of support you choose to make, please know that you are helping provide quality chess education for the next generation of aspiring chess players.
