Scholar-Chessplayer Award
Recognizing Academic & Chess Excellence
Each year, the National Scholastic Chess Foundation and the US Chess Trust fund the Scholar-Chessplayer Awards, which are traditionally presented on the final day of the National High School (K-12) Chess Championship. The awards recognize high school juniors and seniors who excel in academics, chess, and leadership, and thus promote a positive image of chess.
Applications are evaluated by a 3-member panel appointed by the Scholastic Council of the US Chess Federation. This year, the five Scholar Chessplayer winners will receive equal $1,500.00 scholarships. In 2022, a new category, Scholastic Chess Ambassador, was added which permits acknowledgement of lower-rated but deserving chess scholars. There was a tie for this recognition so each winner received $750.
