Recognizing Academic & Chess Excellence

Each year, the National Scholastic Chess Foundation and the US Chess Trust fund the Scholar-Chessplayer Awards, which are traditionally presented on the final day of the National High School (K-12) Chess Championship. The awards recognize high school juniors and seniors who excel in academics, chess, and leadership, and thus promote a positive image of chess.

Applications are evaluated by a 3-member panel appointed by the Scholastic Council of the US Chess Federation. This year, the five winners will receive equal $3,000.00 scholarships totaling $15,000.00 in awards. The awards were doubled this year thanks to the generosity of Dewain and Susan Barber.

Congratulations to Our 2020 Award Recipients
