Young success: Six-year-old Avery Hood placed 8th in the largest Supernationals section - the 423-player K-3 Under 800 section.

He was 6-0 going into the last round, playing for a possible 1st place! Unfortunately, he came up short after a game that lasted one hour and 45 minutes.

This section has always been one of the most competitive at the Spring Nationals. Ratings under 800 are often unreliable, as some parts of the country choose not to rate all their events within the USCF system. Consequently, there is no way to predict the actual strength of these players. This makes Avery's achievement even more remarkable.

Avery is a frequent competitor at NSCF Grand Prix tournaments.
